Kailash Kherhas one of the most recognisable voices in India today. With a unique, earthy soulfulness and soaring range, Kher has appeared as the featured vocalist on over 200 Bollywood movie soundtracks, working many times with the renowned A. R. Rahman. His 2004 hit Allah Ke Bande remains one of Bollywood’s most beloved anthems. But Kher has broken the mold by also becoming one of the country’s most popular recording and performing artists outside the studio walls, regularly playing to packed 30,000 seat arenas and appearing as a judge on Indian Idol. Kher teamed up with musician brothers Naresh and Paresh Kamath to form the band Kailasa. They blend mystical Sufi soul and Indian folk roots with contemporary pop, rock, reggae and funk grooves.
Yatra: Nomadic Soulsis the band’s first international release featuring new recordings of their past hits amongst sensational new songs. Riding the wave of the album’s breakout success, Kailasa has recently performed sold-out concerts at San Francisco’s Stern Grove, Los Angeles’ Hollywood Bowl and the Texas Stadium in Dallas. Finally it’s our turn as Kailash Kher and Kailasa makes its Australian debut with what will be an unforgettable outdoor concert event in Parramatta Park.
Renowned for their theatrical stage antics and infectious energy, opening act Swarathma is an acclaimed Bangalore based band, also making their Australian debut. The six members combine contemporary Indian folk with rock, Carnatic music and jazz. In 2008 Swarathma won the prestigious Radio City Live title as India’s best Hindi band, and was nominated for three Jack Daniels Indian Rock Awards.
